I have to say that I was EXTREMELY impressed with the discussions that took place during our literature circles today!!!  A lot of meaningful conversation occurred and I was pleased with the level of engagement and curiosity that came out of it.

Yesterday (January 26th) was a historic day in Ontario as it was the first time a female was elected as Premier of Ontario!!!  Throughout Ontario's history it has always been a male who has been elected as Premier.

Kathleen Wynne has been working in the Liberal Party for many years and she used to be the Education Minister while Dalton McGuinty was the Premier several years ago.  

CONGRATULATIONS TO KATHLEEN ON THIS HISTORIC WIN!!!!

Hey everyone!

I hope everyone is somewhere in a warm place, especially with the cold weather that we are experiencing.  Please make sure you dress appropriately for the weather as it will continue to be cold the rest of this week!  I guess Winter has finally shown its cold self.. hehe..  

On another note, let's cross our fingers that Michel will visit our school and tell us his story.... I promise you that this transform you and it will be something that you will remember for a long time.

Good Start to a Short Week

I hope everyone enjoyed the beginning of the novel, "War Brothers" today.  This is an opportunity for all of us to emerge ourselves into another culture and learn about the issues that are faced by others in different places around the world.

REMINDER:  MATH EXAMINATION WILL TAKE PLACE IN 2ND WEEK OF FEB.

HOMEWORK/REMINDERS:

1)  MATH -->  Draw the BISECTORS of the angles given in class + draw a RHOMBUS using bisectors

2)  LA -->  BOOK REPORT (assignment will be handed out this week)

3)  SCIENCE -->  READ p. 30 - 35   + Answer questions

Sparking Change.....

I have to say that I was so moved on how engaged and interested all of you were after the activities on Thursday and Friday.  I really hope that the video we watched and the activity we did with the experiences we encounter in our lives sparks all of you to think about others in the world that are experiencing pain and misery.  

Starting Monday, we will take a journey into the lives of children living in Central Africa through the novel, "War Brothers."  Our goal is not only to learn to have compassion and empathy for those that are less fortunate, but to lend our hand in helping to better the lives of those people.  

In the next couple of days, I will have a separate page on the blog that will be updated with videos, information, and bulletins on the issue of child abduction and children being forced into war to help facilitate the novel we will be reading.  If you have anything that you would like to add, please let me know and I will add it to the page after I have viewed the content.

I hope that this will make a difference in your lives and that it sparks you to make a difference in another person's life.

WEDNESDAY......

Hey everyone!!!

Just a reminder of what we discussed today... remember to make good choices for yourself and don't let others make those choices or decisions for you!  Every action we take has a re-action to it... and in some instances even consequences.  I believe that everything happens for a reason and that life is always giving us examples of how to be better people... and always giving us lessons to help us grow as individuals.  

Even if you fall down or make a mistake.... it's important to get back up and learn from the mistake that you have made.  Making a mistake is okay, but repeating the same mistake is foolish.  You are all great kids and I know that you will make mistakes as you go along in life... but remember that making mistakes is part of being human so long as we learn from them.

I know that you all have the intentions and aspirations of being good people... so let's see your best qualities shine through 8C!!!

Thursday's Math Test

For Thursday's Math Test/Quiz, it will cover angles (right, obtuse, acute, straight, reflex), supplementary + complimentary angles, and the properties of Parallel lines + triangles.

The test is NOT a unit test... it's just to see whether you understand what we have covered in Geometry so far.

So EXCITED to be BACK!!!

Hey 8Cers!!!! (so good to say that again!)

I am so thankful to be back to school!!!  Today was such an exciting and awesome day of school.... I haven't felt like that for such a long time!!!  Thank you for carrying yourselves out with respect over the last week that I have been away and getting your work completed!!!  And yes.... I did miss all of you even while I was sleeping or dying on my couch!!!

We have a lot to accomplish from now to the end of the school year and I look forward to working with  all of you to get you prepared for high school!!!

Thanks for being such an amazing and dynamic group of kids (or adolescents)!!! Looking forward to a rewarding and incredible rest of middle school with all of you!!!
